Duel of the Sith
By JAM4077

Based of the Star Wars Franchise

(The following story is a practice for writing a lightsaber duels and a fight between 2 Force wielders for future Star Wars fan-fictions.)

Count Kontar, a tall, mid aged human man with salt and pepper hair and full beard and mustache, lowered his curved-handled lightsaber as the crimson blade hissed out of existence. He hung the saber’s handle on his belt and looked at his victims, who were nursing their wounds. Jaina Draco, a near-human female with long flowing brown hair, pointed ears, and bright emerald green eyes, stood over Ben Skywalker II, a human man with short red hair with a crossed shape scar on his left cheek and cousin and padawan to Jaina, healing the wound that took from losing his sword arm. Ben bit his lip, holding back the pain he was feeling. He tries to get up, but Jaina kept him down knowing that he wouldn’t be a match for Kontar with just one hand.

Kontar admired Ben’s courage for wanting to continue the fight. He expected nothing less from the young man whom the people of Akuma called the Slayer. As the adrenaline lowered down in through his system and his boost from the Force faded, Kontar finally felt the pain that Ben had dealt him. He looks down to sees a deep gash in his upper right arm from where Ben stroke him with his lightsaber. Kontar also had a gash in his leg, but it wasn’t as deep as the cut in his arm. His stomach ached from Ben’s back kick, which ignited the their duel.

Kontar knew that Ben would be a unique opponent for the former Jedi and his lightsaber form II style known as Makashi. However, Kontar was quickly overwhelmed by Ben’s unique fighting style. It had all the traits affiliated with lightsaber form V, Djem-So, but it had the speed and aggressive traits of form IV, Ataru. However, during the whole battle, Kontar did not feel a single trace of the Force boosting Ben’s speed. It was Ben that was moving so fast that an on looking Jedi would think that he had boosted his agility with the Force.

To combat this, Kontar had to mix his Makashi style with Ataru and the defensive form III lightsaber style known as Soresu. This allowed Kontar to keep up with Ben’s unique style of fighting. However, there was one other aspect that Kontar failed to notice until it nearly cost him his arm. With the way that Ben was using his saber, it seemed to Kontar that he was up against several blades at once. By the time he got his wound, Kontar was able to determine that Ben was using Vaapad, a variation of lightsaber form VII that was created by Jedi Masters Mace Windu and Sora Bulq of the Old Jedi Order.

With Vaapad in his arsenal, Ben could use the dark side energy and fury that Kontar was using against him without Ben falling to the dark side of the Force. With Ben’s unique style, Vaapad was taken to a whole new level, turning what seemed like a dozen blades going against his opponent into an army of blades. However, Kontar wasn’t a blade master for the Jedi Order for nothing. Kontar had switched to the Vaapad style, evening the playing field. The switch had allowed Kontar to survive his ordeal and land his own blow on Ben by depriving him of his sword arm. Although, this was a temporary fix, one that Kontar was happy to live with.

The sound of the battle outside grew closer to the hanger bay, meaning that his forces were being pushed back the Republic, the Fel Empire, and their new clone army. It wouldn’t be long until more Jedi and Imperial Knights showed up to arrest him. His time to escape was now.

However, he felt two powerful presences approaching the hanger. Kontar’s apprentice, a female Rattataki named Nyla Cors, who had black tattoo in similar design to the Sith tattoos of the One Sith order, walked away from her human master’s vessel and joins his side. She had her right hand placed on one of the two-curved handle lightsaber that hung on her belt.

Within a minute of Nyla’s appearance, a starship comes into view of the Sith master and Sith apprentice and the two wounded Jedi. Kontar was surprised the design of the ship that was about to land. The exterior of the ship was the perfect replica of the Fury-class Imperial Interceptor that was used by the Sith Empire during the Great Galactic War, the Cold War, and the Second Great Galactic War. The Fury Interceptor lands a couple of meters away from Kontar’s Nune-class Imperial Shuttle.

The Fury Interceptor’s landing plank came down allowing two figures, covered and hooded in dark robes, to walk down. Kontar could determine that the two newcomers were a man and a woman. They didn’t say anything to the two Jedi as they approached Kontar and Nyla. The two fingers removed their hoods and their robes, which proved Kontar’s suspicions to be right. The newcomer to the right was a tall man, about 2 meters tall. He was bald, fair skin, and very muscular. He also had armor on. It was similar to the armor worn by Yuuzhan Vong. However, it also had the look of the Orbalisk armor, which was famously worn by the Sith Lords, Darth Bane and Freedon Nadd.

The woman that stood next the hulky man had a more slender build, but it was the same build as a gymnast. She wore red, silver and black attire looked very out of place and looked very ancient. Thanks to the short sleeves of the attire, Kontar figured that the woman was a Zeltron or a Devaronian that wasn’t covered in fur because of the woman’s red skin. But it was hard to tell because of the mask she wore.

The mask that covered the woman’s face was black and silver. The mouthpiece of the mask had a similar design to mouthpiece of Darth Vader’s mask. The eyes were shaped like the eye sockets of a skull and showed no hint of the wearer’s eyes. The mask also cover the wearer’s neck. Kontar took note that the some of the designs on the mask matched the designs on the woman’s clothing and dress.

The two newcomers drew their lightsabers from their belts. The man held standard hilt lightsaber. The woman held a curved handle lightsaber, which was just as old or older than the attire she wore. The two newcomers ignited their lightsabers, each one hissed as they came to life. Kontar’s eyes and eyes of every other onlooker of the two newcomers widen at the sight of the two crimson blade that had just appeared. The same thought came across their minds: they were Sith. But just how Sith were they? Sure they had the power of the dark side, but there was also the presence of the light side of the Force.

The two unknown Sith charge at Kontar and Nyla, who drew their lightsabers in response. Nyla crossed the blades of her twin sabers to block the attack of female Sith and then went on the offensive, using a mixture of Ataru, Makashi, and Jar’Kai, the art of wielding twin lightsaber blades. The female Sith went on the defensive with Soresu, swinging her lightsaber around to create a protective barrier that Nyla had a hard time penetrating.

Nyla’s master was having a hard time of his own. The male Sith that Kontar was dueling with was using Djem So, a variation of form V, a prefect form for the giant of a man to use. Kontar had hoped that his use of the Makashi style would give him an advantage over the big man. But as with his duel with Ben, Kontar’s Makashi style was at a disadvantage. In fact, the way the giant Sith dealt with Kontar’s Makashi sword style meant that Kontar’s opponent had faced Makashi many times during his training.

Kontar switched to Soresu, hoping it buy him time gather enough Force energy for the one thing that could bring this hulk of a Sith down. Kontar stepped away from combatant, extinguish his lightsaber, and unleashed a storm of blue and violet lightning from his fingertips. The bolts cracked and hissed as they made their way towards their target.

Then, quicker than Kontar’s eyes could see, The masked female Sith had leaped away from Nyla and got between the hulky Sith and the Sith lightning. Stretching out her left hand, the female Sith drew Kontar’s storm toward her and absorbed the blast into her being. Kontar broke off his attack and reignited his saber. The female Sith, unharmed by Kontar’s attack, leaped into the air, crossed her arms and brought them outward. Her move caused an onslaught on Sith lightning to rain down on Kontar and Nyla. Kontar and Nyla dodged and regrouped until this storm of violet colored Sith lightning passed.

Once it did, the hanger bay filled with the sounds of lightsaber blades clashing with one another. Kontar and Nyla worked together against the two Sith. Both sides were switched up opponents and going two on one from time to time. Nyla joined her two lightsabers together to form a lightsaber staff. However, this wouldn’t give her an advantage over the muscular Sith. The giant Sith parries one of Nyla’s strikes and roundhouse kicked her in the side. The impact knocked the wind out of Nyla and cracked a rib or two. This left her vulnerable for an overhead blow by her opponent.

As the giant Sith delivers a killing blow to take off Nyla’s head from her body, Kontar throws his lightsaber at his opposing female Sith. The masked Sith ducked to avoid decapitation. But decapitation wasn’t Kontar’s goal. The flying lightsaber comes between Nyla and the blade of the giant Sith’s lightsaber, parrying the attack. As Kontar’s lightsaber flew back into it’s master’s hand, Nyla subdues her pain, using it to fuel for her connection to the dark side, and landed a kick in the giant’s midsection. Nyla’s opponent stood back away from the Rattataki, which gave her enough time to grab her lightsabers with the Force.

Then, at the corner of her eye, Nyla caught the female Sith hurling her master across the hanger and coming for her next. Reaching deep down, Nyla lashed out at the masked Sith with Force lightning. The attack wasn’t as strong as the one that her master had displayed earlier, but it was enough to catch the masked Sith off guard and flying back.

The masked Sith rolls across the floor and quickly lands on her hand and knees. Kontar took his chance to unleash his Force lightning on the female Sith. The masked Sith hollows as the lightning bolts began to cook her alive. Kontar steps closer to his victim, slowly amplifying his attack every so slighting with each step he took and savoring every second of the female Sith’s suffering.

Then, Kontar felt something like hard hit his side and sent him flying. He crashed hard into the stonewalls of the hanger bay. He let out low moans as he got up from his crash. His vision came to after a couple of moments and he realized what had happened to him. The giant Sith, empowered by Force rage, an ability that allowed a person to channel their rage, fear, anger, and pain to increase their strength and speed, had tackled Kontar while he was slowly enjoying killing the masked Sith.

The masked Sith had taken off her mask, which revealed a great shock to Kontar. The woman was neither Zeltron nor Devaronian. The woman’s face was as red as the rest of her skin. Across the woman’s right eye was a long scar. Her round and small nose had markings on it, but they weren’t scar. They were more like birthmarks. She had raven black hair that ran down to the base of her neck and long bangs that almost covered her left eye. But what surprised Kontar the most was the fact that she had 2 spikes growing on the sides of her cheeks. Attached to her chin are 2 tendrils that seemed to be quivering in response to woman’s anger. This features were traits belonging to the Red Sith, or Sith Pureblood as they were known during the times of the Great Galactic War and two wars that followed.

That’s impossible, Kontar thought to himself. From what he knew, the Red Sith had vanished from the galaxy at the end of the Second Great Galactic War. Some say they met with the same demise as the Rakata on Lehon. Although, recently, there were accounts of Red Sith living on worlds in the Unknown Region of space. But they seemed to have no quorum against the Jedi or the known galaxy, if the accounts were true.

The female Red Sith got up on her feet and turned her attention to Kontar. Her yellow eyes changed into a glowing light of purple. Then, much to Kontar’s amazement, he saw ghostly apparitions appear behind the female Red Sith. Kontar recognized each ghost as they took form. First was Darth Nox, one of the members of the Dark Council during the Second Great Galactic War and famed user of Force Walk, an ability to bind a Force Ghost to a living being to gain power. Aloysius Kallig, ancestor of Darth Nox and rival of Sith Lord Tulak Hord. Ashara Zavros, a former Jedi turned Sith Togruta who was once the apprentice of Darth Nox. Some records indicate that Ashara Zavros was one of two wives that Darth Nox took during his lifetime. The Sith Lord Horak-mul, a Red Sith supporter of the Sith Lord, Ludo Kressh, before and during the Great Hyperspace War and one of the ghosts that Darth Nox bound to himself.

An aura of black and purple surrounded the Red Sith as she holds out her left hand. Kontar finds himself being lifted up into the air. With the flick of her hand, Kantor was thrown from side the hanger to another. Kantor slams hard on his back into the stonewall behind hom. The impact could have left him paralyzed if Nyla hadn’t shielded him in the last minute.

The Female Red Sith sets her sights on Nyla. Nyla was lifted high into the air, grasping at her neck as the Red Sith’s invisible grip over it tightened. The giant Sith walks towards Kantor, his lightsaber ready to finish off the former Jedi once and for all. While, groaning in pain, Kantor builded up his power of the Force, slowly enough to go unnoticed. The giant Sith stands over Kantor, placing both of his hands on his lightsaber for a two handed blow. Kantor raises both of his arms out, unleashing a wave of the Force energy so strong that it broke any barrier that the giant had made for himself with the Force.

The armored Sith was sent flying back into his comrade, which broke her hold on Nyla. Nyla lands onto the floor, coughing her lungs out as she recovered. Kontar races over to his apprentice’s side. As he did, he focused on the Force to bring down the ceiling on top all others in the hanger by.

Stones and metal pieces rain down on the two Jedi and the two Sith. The armored Sith reached out with the Force to prevent himself and his Red Sith companion from being crushed. But it was proving too much for him to handle, even with his Orbalisk-Vonduum Crab Hybrid armor boosting his strength. Then, he felt another power aiding him in stopping the ceiling from coming down. He turned his head in the direction of the two Jedi. Ben Skywalker and Jaina Draco were on their feet, reaching out with the Force to help the giant. With their combined efforts, they were able to stop the ceiling from killing them. However, it gave Kontar and his apprentice the time needed to escape.

The two Jedi and two Sith stared at each other for a moment, each one wonder as to what the other might do. Ben and Jaina were in no condition for a fight. The two Sith were slight exhausted from their battle with Kontar and Nyla. Then, the humming sound of the Republic’s new gunship reached their ears. Jaina gave the two Sith a quick nod, which the two Sith took as a sign to leave. The two Sith bowed their heads to the two Jedi and made their way for their ship.

The Fury Interceptor took off as the gunship arrived. The clone troopers that were on the gunship, along with the Senator of Naboo, Raven Rain Falcona III, and her female Iktotchi bodyguard and friend, Sarrai, fired at the interceptor, thinking it was the escape ship for Kontar. Luckily, all their shots missed the ship and it was able to climb back into space.

This fight between two groups of Sith would soon be forgotten given the number of Jedi and Imperial Knights that fell at the Battle of Balmorra, a which would start the Third Great Galactic War, which would be also known as the Sith-Clone War. However, this would not be the last time that Kontar or Nyla would run into the two Sith they fought on Balmorra, who called themselves Darth Nox II and Darth Mace.
Not too long ago, I post a cover for a Darth Zannah fan-fic I'm putting into the works. But before I do any of that, I thought I might get in some practice on writing a lightsaber duel. I hope I did a good job. If you have any hints to help me improve, tell me down in the comments. I hope you like it.
