"Entry for May-ternity Contest 2017 on Pregnant-Role-Play"

Sometime ago, I was on :iconimpreg-nation:'s Discord and several members were coming up with a theme for this year's Mayternity. Eventually, they decided on Mayternity Through Time, which portrays with different times and cultures. This was a very neat idea and was a challenge I wanted to try out as I have done little historical drawings, especially when it came to pregnancy. However, due to other obligations, I wasn't about to join this community event. But that wasn't going to stop me from taking up this challenge.

So, for the first picture I did, I went with Ancient Greece. Before I put pencil to paper, I knew this Ancient Greek mother-to-be was going to be from :SPARTA:. Why Sparta? Well, the women of Sparta were stated to be the most beautiful women of all Greece. Helen of Troy, a woman so beautiful that it led to the Trojan War, was original from Sparta. This renowned beauty was due to the fact that Spartan women had exercise regimes that would make them as fit as the Spartan men. This was done so that Spartan women would give birth to strong, healthy babies. Another interesting fact about Spartan women was that they had more freedoms then other women in Ancient Greece. Spartan women were well educated and they had the right to own and inherit land.

Now, when drawing this, I took a few liberties with the clothing. You see, Spartan women wore clothes that were simple and were very short. From what I have seen from the History Channel documentary, Last Stand of the 300, that was not the case when a Spartan woman was expecting, but I can't be sure was the documentary didn't show the expecting Gorgo, Queen of Sparta, from the below her swollen belly. For clothing and hair, I used drawing done by :iconninidu: as reference. For the color of the clothing, I tried to match them to the colors worn by the Spartan in the movie, 300. I also included the famous line that any Spartan mother would say to their sons before sending them off into battle, Come back with your shield or on it.

I hope you enjoy this drawing. Expect more drawings like this for the rest of this month and, probably, into June. The skin texture I used in this drawing by made by :iconredheadstock:.
